Public transport in Bremen and Lower Saxony: Niedersachsentarif & VBN: Upgrade for online & mobile tickets

Lower Saxony: Public transport passengers in Bremen and Lower Saxony have reason to celebrate: it’s now even easier to buy online or mobile tickets. Due to the update of their states’ timetable planner FahrPlaner, they can now, for the first time, use the eos.uptrade shop to buy two different fares: one for VBN and one for NITAG (two public transport associations for Bremen & Lower Saxony). This was made possible by the cooperation of the two tariff zones and by the partnership of the two system suppliers HaCon and eos.uptrade. The two partners connected their databases for timetable and fare information through a joint interface to sell flat-rate fares as well as route-specific fares directly from the shop.

By introducing  a single public transport fare for Lower Saxony (Niedersachsentarif) within the timetable planner FahrPlaner for Lower Saxony & Bremen, the VBN mobile shop (launched in 2015) now offers new features that enable customers to buy their tickets much quicker (e.g. fingerprint or face ID payment). It is now also possible to quickly buy a ticket even as an unregistered user thanks to PayPal. Customers no longer need to enter their data into the app since all data necessary to create a ticket are available from their PayPal account. As a result, even unregistered users can buy their ticket with two clicks in less than 10 seconds.

eos.uptrade now also offers a new feature for the popular regional tickets: As with printed tickets offered in several online shops implemented by eos.uptrade, the mobile regional ticket (such as the Lower Saxony Ticket in its different forms) can now be personalised with the names of all passengers. This way, a mobile version of that ticket can now be offered without risk of lost revenue for transport companies.
