eos.uptrade integrates check-in/assisted check-out feature into MOOVME app of the Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund
New network-wide solution offers passengers in the Halle-Leipzig area easy access to public transport thanks to automatic journey recording and fare optimization
Hamburg, September 19, 2024. The MOOVME mobility app from the Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund (MDV) includes a new, integrated check-in/assisted check-out function (CiaCo). Since August, passengers benefit from fully automated journey registration and fare calculation without having to know the fare or enter the start and destination stops and always have a valid ticket at the best price.
Passengers only need to check in before starting a journey on MDV using the smartphone app and leave the rest to the intelligent technology, which calculates the optimum fare at the end. At the heart of this innovation is the “XiXo” solution, which was developed by eos.uptrade and integrated into the MOOVME app that was developed by Hacon. Both companies are subsidiaries of Siemens Mobility and part of the Software business unit.
Journey detection is achieved through geo-tracking with the help of existing smartphone sensors. Once checked in with a “swipe” in the MOOVME app, all vehicles and services in the MDV can be used, in the MDV North area exclusively on local trains. When you check out at the end of a journey, the “Sachsen Mobil” fare server provided by the Fraunhofer Institute IVI automatically calculates the optimum fare. ABO Flex”, which entitles the holder to purchase discounted tickets on MDV, is also recognized and taken into account in the price optimization. Thanks to “assisted check-out”, even a forgotten check-out is no problem.
Journeys are not invoiced until after a period of 24 hours. An automatic price cap prevents several rides within 24 hours from becoming more expensive than a 24-hour ticket in the respective fare zone.
The new function is available to all passengers in the MOOVME app. If tickets have already been purchased in MOOVME in the past, it is not necessary to register again to use it. This means that passengers can check in directly and travel even more easily in MDV.
“For several years now, we have been pursuing the gradual restructuring of our sales architecture with our digital sales strategy. With the successful public transport apps on the market in the MDV area, we now generate around 20-25% of all sales in the occasional ticket segment. Purchase acceptance via smartphone is continuously increasing, so it is only logical that the local transport companies that are part of MDV are making local transport even easier to access for the 2.1 million people in Central Germany with the check-in/assisted check-out function,” summarizes MDV Managing Director Steffen Lehmann.
The MOOVME app uses the innovative XiXo technology from eos.uptrade. XiXo was developed by eos.uptrade as a white label solution and can be used as a stand-alone app or integrated into existing apps using a ticket library. A connection to the tariff server developed by the Fraunhofer IVI ensures data supply in accordance with the PKM standard.
“We are very happy that the MOOVME app with the integration of our XiXo product now also makes it much easier for occasional travelers to access public transport in the MDV area,” says Mathias Hüske, CEO eos.uptrade.
