Back to the roots at eos.uptrade!

Mario Rexin left eos.uptrade GmbH at the beginning of 2022 for personal reasons in order to devote himself to a new job and another company after more than 7 years with the company. After almost 1.5 years, however, he realized what had kept him at eos.uptrade all these years and therefore returned to us.

Our Recruiting Manager Hanna Rump asked him why this all happened.

Hanna: Hello Mario, welcome back to eos.uptrade! Ok, you’re not that new anymore… the first 6 months are already over. But even better, so you can already tell us about your new position.

Let's start at the beginning. How did you originally come across eos.uptrade in 2014? Can you still remember that?

Mario: I was a software developer at a digital agency in 2014. At that time, my day-to-day work consisted of "programming" landing pages, email templates and competitions, but I was also involved in some parts of product development. The desire to develop a product sustainably and over the long term was the reason for my move to eos.uptrade. As a commuter who had been using public transport between Lübeck and Hamburg for years, I was already familiar with eos.uptrade's products as a user and could identify directly with the product and market. At the time, my changeover was handled in the traditional way via a recruitment agency.

Hanna: I myself started at eos.uptrade in mid-2020. Please tell me a bit about your first "episode" with us. What position did you hold back then and what was your area of responsibility or has it changed in the 7 years?

Mario: I started in 2014 as a software developer in the PHP team. In 2018, the opportunity arose to lead this team as Team Leader. Change was the only constant for me during that time, and I always found that very positive. As a team leader, I was able to support and help shape the introduction of agile working methods, develop the team further and grow it significantly, and I also had the opportunity to get involved outside of my actual area of responsibility. Along the way, I was also able to get to know the mobility industry and in particular, public transport in German-speaking countries better and better.

Hanna: 7 years is a long time. What has kept you with us all these years?

Mario: In the end, it was almost 8 years and no year was the same. These constant changes and adjustments within the company as well as the development of the market have always led to new challenges - it never got boring. Despite these changes and despite the growth, eos.uptrade has always maintained a very familiar atmosphere, which I have come to appreciate very much over the years.

Hanna: Why did you decide to leave eos.uptrade in 2021 and how did it come about that you started working for us again last year?

Mario: The PHP team has continued to grow over the years and was spread across more and more locations, including international ones. Since 2020, the coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we work and collaborate as a team, which has naturally also changed my own role a lot. I believe that we have handled these challenges very well as a company and that I personally have learned a lot from them and taken a lot with me. Nevertheless, at the end of 2021, I felt that I wanted to focus even more on technical topics, market and customer requirements and thus move further away from pure software development. When a competitor expressed an interest in me at precisely this time, I saw this as an opportunity to make a clear cut.

In retrospect, I consider this move to have been absolutely the right decision. It was good for me to leave my comfort zone, to get involved in a completely different environment and to learn new ways of working in my new role as a systems engineer in an international company.

In the end, not everything was right for me at my new employer and not all expectations were met. As I wanted to stay in the industry and never lost contact with my old employer, it was only natural that I should also talk to eos.uptrade. These conversations alone have shown me why I have been with eos.uptrade for so long and why I have always felt comfortable there.

Hanna: Today you are a requirements engineer at eos.uptrade. What exactly does that mean and do you enjoy this new role?

Mario: The role of a requirements engineer is a relatively new one at eos.uptrade, which is actually still being defined. But of course, as the title suggests, the focus is on the customer's requirements. And this is particularly important to me: it's not just about taking requirements and passing them on to development, but rather consulting and joint development based on the needs of our customers and the market, and always with a view to our own product portfolio. My tasks also include supporting tenders, for example.

I really enjoy this role because I can contribute all my experience, but also help shaping the future of our product portfolio.

Hanna: Thank you very much for your time - it were very interesting insights. I wish you fun and success in your new role with us.
